Transport In Cells Flashcards
Aerobic Respiration
Respiration that requires oxygen
Amino acids
The building blocks that make up a protein molecule
Bacteria
Single celled microorganisms, some of which are pathogenic in humans, animals and plants.
Active transport
A movement of molecules across a cell membrane to a higher concentration
Alveoli
Tiny air sacs at the end of bronchioles . The alveoli are where the lungs and blood exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide
Diffusion
The movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
Passive transport
Transport of molecules thats occurs as a result of the random movement of particles so that there is a net movement from a higher to lower concentration. Passive transport does not require energy.
Partially permeable
It allows water and other small molecules to pass through, but not larger molecules such as starch
Villi
They increase the surface area of the small intestine
