Transport Flashcards
1
Q
transport
A
tries to balance the ratio
2
Q
diffusion
A
high –> low
solutes move
3
Q
osmosis
A
low –> high (solutes)
high –> low (water)
water moves
3 types of solutions
4
Q
facilitated diffusion
A
high –> low
solutes move
membrane proteins are required
5
Q
active transport
A
low –> high
solutes move
energy is required
membrane proteins are required
6
Q
Osmosis type solutions
A
- hypotonic
- isotonic
- hypertonic
7
Q
hypotonic solution
A
- less soluted in cell, more soluted in solution
- more water in cell, less water in solution
- water leaves the cell, resulting with it having less mass than it started with
8
Q
isotonic solution
A
- same amount of water and solutes in a cell and outside of it
- no change in mass
- water is always moving in and out so there’s a slight, but not noticeable change
9
Q
hypertonic solution
A
- more solutes in cell, less outside
- less water in cell, more on outside
- water goes into the cell
- results in an increase in mass
