Transpiration Flashcards
What is transportation?
Loss of wAter vapour from the leaves of a plant through the stomata
How does the rate of photosynthesis affect the rate of transportation ?
During photosynthesis there will be more stomata open and more transpiration
How does temperature affect the rate of transportation ?
The heigher the temp, the more energy the particles have and so there is faster transpiration, evaporation, diffusion
How does humidity affect the rate of transportation ?
The less humidity in the hair, there is less of a concentration gradient and so more transpiration
How does wind speed affect the rate of transportation ?
When the wind is faster it blows away the moist air from the leaves and so there is more transpiration
What is used to measure the transpiration?
Potometre
How have plants adapted to prevent water loss? 4 points
- A waxy cuticle
- Stomata on underside of leaf
- plants can close their stomata
- wilting to reduce surface area
Is the phloem in the inside or outside of the diagram?
Outside
Describe the phloem
- living cels
- pathways formed through the plant
Describe The xylem
- dead cells
- form tubes throughout plant
What does the phloem carry
Sugars from laces to flowers
What does the xylem carry
Water and mineral ions
