• evaporation from leaves helps to cool plants

why is the rate of water loss greater when it’s windy?

-in still air, the area around the transpiring leaf is saturated with water vapour, so no more can escape from the leaf so rate of transpiration slows.
- whereas when windy, the water vapour surrounding the leaf is blown away as fast as it is transpiring out, speeding up transpiration.
