Transpiration definition

A

The loss of water by evaporation from the leaves of a plant
Most of this occurs from the underside of the leaf, where the water vapour can leave through the open stomata

Q

Steps of transpiration

A

Water enters root hair cells via osmosis
Water enters the xylem vessel down the water concentration gradient
Water flows from the roots to the leaves via xylem vessels
Water moves from the xylem vessel into the cells down the concentration gradient
Water evaporating from leaf
Diffuser out the stomata

Q

Factors affecting transpiration

A

Humidity
Higher humidity,
less water concentration gradient,
slower rate of transpiration

Temperature
Higher temperature
More energy water moles have
Faster, evap faster, transpiration

Light intensity
Higher light intensity
Faster p.sis, more stomata open ^evap

Wind
Faster air moving
Higher water, conc gradient
faster T
