Q

Terminal Velocity (Vt) Question: Define Vt.

A

the constant speed that a freely falling object eventually reaches when the resistance of the medium through which it is falling prevents further acceleration.

Q

Vt = sqrt(2mg/CpA). Given every other variable is the same, is an ice cube more aerodynamic than an ice sphere.

A

The sphere is the shape with minimal surface area among all bodies of the same volume. A cube has more SA, so it experiences greater resistive force when moving through air.

Q

A greater initial velocity causes the object to reach terminal velocity in a (shorter/longer) time, and it also (increases, decreases, doesn’t have an effect) on the final Vt.

A

Shorter; doesn’t change Vt.

Q

Define viscosity.

A

Resistance to flow. More resistance causes an object to move more slowly.

Q

Analyzing graphs….in nature graphs tend to look: linear, or exponential?

A

Linear changes implies abruptness. Most things in nature happen smoothly.
