Olim puer fratres duos habebat
Once a boy had two brothers
Puellae puerum rogaverunt: ‘Cur lacrimas?’
The young girls asked the boy: ‘Why are you crying?’
Mercator parvam villam vendebat
The merchant was selling his small house
Dominus avarum rogavit: ‘ quanti haec villa est?’
The master asked the miser: ‘how much is this house?’
Sed dominus magnum pretium offerebat quod liberalissimus erat
But the master was offering a big price because he was very generous
Tandem avarus villam vendit. Dominus laetus villam emit et servos vocat
At last the miser is selling the house. The happy master buys his house and calls his slaves
‘laetus sum’ inquit’ quod mercator magnum pretium accepit’
‘I am happy’ he said’ because the merchant accepted my high (big) price’
Parva villa dominam delectat
The small house pleases the mistress
Domina et dominus et puer et sorores tacebat quod laetissimi erant
The mistress, the master, the boy and his sisters were silent because they were very happy
Postquam hic avarus fratres ambos audavit: ‘ita vero’ inquit ‘lacrimavi quod parvum pretium consensi’
After this miser heard both borthers: ‘yes’ he said ‘I cried because I agreed a small price’
