Translation Flashcards
What is translation
Polypeptide chains created
Stage 1
mRNA attaches to ribosome and ribosome attaches to start codon on mRNA (1st 3 mRNA bases)
Stage 2
tRNA with complementary anticodon to the start codon aligns opposite the mRNA - held in place by ribosome
Stage 3
The ribosome will move along the mRNA to enable another complementary tRNA to attach to the next codon on the mRNA
Stage 4
The 2 amino acids that have been delivered by the tRNA are joine by a polypeptide bond which is catalysed by an enzyme and ATP
Stage 5
This continues until ribosome reaches a stop codon at the end of mRNA
How many tRNA can a ribosome hold
2
What is a stop codon
Does not code for an amino acid and therefor the ribosome detaches and translation ends
What reaction happens to atp
Hydrolysed
