prognosis
a prediction of the probable outcome of a disease or disorder
sequela
condition that results from an injury or disease
acute
abrupt, severe onset to a disease
chronic
developing slowly and lasting a long time
sign
objective finding of a disease state (i.e. fever, high BP, rash)
symptom
a subjective report of a disease
syndrome
a group of signs and symptoms that consistently appear together
eponyms
terms that are named after a person or place
Simple abbreviations
a combination of letters and sometimes numbers. Ex: IM=intramuscular, C2=second cervical vertebra
acronyms
abbreviations that are also pronouceable
Ex: CABG: coronary artery bypass graft
