A

When Texas gained its independence from Mexico many felt that Texas would immediately join the United States. Texas also thought that become a state in the United States would offer additionally protection from the United States military

Why did the United States want to annex Texas

A

The final reason in favor of annexation was based on fear, Americans were afraid of great Britain’s involvement in Texas. Americans feared that Texas would ally with great Britain and if it interfere with the United States

Annexation was a hotly debated issue in the United States. What reason were people in the United States against annexation

A

The United States people were against annexation, because many Americans were scared that if another Slavs state joined the United States, it would give too much power to slave holding states. Americans were also concerned about Texas dept, the republic of Texas owed over $10 million. People also knew that Mexico didn’t respect the independence of the United States and the war would start if Texan was annexed
