Transition Elements Flashcards
What are the physical properties of transition elements?
Good conductors of both heat and electricity. They have high densities. They have high melting and boiling points (apart from mercury)
What are the chemical properties of transition elements?
They’re much less reactive than alkali metals (group 1). This means they don’ react as easily with oxygen and water as alkalis do
What are the compounds of transition elements?
Copper(II) sulfate is blue
Nickel(II) carbonate is pale green
Chromium(III) oxide is dark green
Manganese(II) chrloride is pale pink
Why are transition metals so important in chemical industry?
They’re very good catalysts
Why do transition element compounds have Roman number after them?
Because they can form more that 1 ion
