Transformations Flashcards
What do you do for reflection over the x axis?
(x,y) ➡ (x,-y)
What do you do for reflection over the y axis?
(x,y) ➡ (-x,y)
What do you do for reflection over y=x?
(x,y) ➡ (y,x)
How do you rotate 90 degrees?
CCW (-y,x), CW (y,-x)
How do you rotate 180 degrees?
(x,y) ➡ (-x,-y)
What direction is rotation defaulted to?
CCW (Counter Clockwise)
Clockwise/Counterclockwise
The directions in which something can move
Congruent
Two figures are congruent if they have the same shape and size, or if one is matching with the mirror image.
Pre-image/Image
The image is the final representation of the line, point, or figure after a transformation, and the preimage is the figure before the transformation.
Orientation
Orientation is the angular position of an object such as a line, or a plane. This tells us how it is placed and what space it occupies.
Origin
The origin is the point on a grid which is the point (0,0).
Reflection
Reflection is when you have a given line and you reflect the figure around it.
Translation
Translation is when you basically move the figure, but not rotate or flip it.
Rotation
Rotation is when you have a given point to rotate the figure around.
Rigid transformation
Rigid transformation is when you move and flip the object, but it does not change size or shape at all.
