Transfemoral Gait Flashcards
What is their gait cycle like?
- shorter
- more time in double limb support
- upright trunk
- core stabilization
What is important in loading response?
knee joint stability
What may be the patient cause for forceful and excessive knee extension during terminal impact?
- afraid of knee giving away
- forceful hip flexion
What may be the patient cause of foot slap?
increased hip extension force at initial contact
What may be the prosthetic cause of knee instability in stance?
- knee axis too far anterior (causes posterior or flexor moment)
- socket too far posterior
- lack of socket flexion
What may be the patient cause of knee instability in stance?
- inadequate hip extension ROM
- Hip flexion contracture
What may be prosthetic causes to a lateral trunk bend in midstance?
- socket too abducted
- prosthesis too short
- medial socket wall too high
What may be patient causes to a lateral trunk bend in midstance?
- pain
- glute med weakness
- decreased balance
- adductor roll
What may be the prosthetic cause of an abducted gait in midstance?
- foot/leg too far outset
- prosthesis too long (patient will want to get pressure off medial wall)
- medial socket wall too high
- lateral wall not adducted enough (causes OKC before getting CKC)
What may be the patient cause of an abducted gait in midstance?
- abduction contracture
- lateral-distal residual limb pain
- decreased balance/trying to increase their BoS
- Adductor roll
What may be the prosthetic cause to excessive trunk extension in midstance?
- increased socket extension
- not enough flexion built into the socket
What may be the patient cause to excessive trunk extension in midstance? What position will the patient be in?
- weak hip extensors
- weak abdominals
- hip flexion contracture
- very short residual limb
Patient will be in a hyperlordodic position
What is drop off? What phase does it occur in?
sudden and excessive knee flexion during late stance phase
What may be the prosthetic cause of drop off in terminal stance?
- short toe lever
- socket set too far posterior to knee axis
What may be the patient cause for excessive heel raise during swing phase?
forceful hip flexion
