Trans Tibial Suspension Flashcards
What are the four generic TT suspensions?
- Atmospheric Pressure (suction)
- Anatomic
- Straps
- Hinges
Examples of atmospheric pressure (suction)
- Roll on locking liners
- hypobaric socks
- vacuum
- knee sleeves
What is the primary indication, major advantages and disadvantages for suction sockets?
- Whenever clinically feasable
- minimizes pistoning, best proprioception, greatest ROM
- precise fit, consistent donning necessary, works best with stable residual limb
Examples of anatomic sockets
-supracondylar wedge with or without suprapatellar extension
What is the primary indication, major advantages and disadvantages for anatomic sockets?
-To increase knee stability for short residual limb or ligamentous laxity
Examples of Strap Sockets
- Cuff
- cuff+waist belt
- fork strap + waist belt
What is the primary indication, major advantages and disadvantages for strap sockets?
- Residual limb volume changes anticipated
- Amputee-adjustable, good auxiliary suspension
- Some pistoning, waist belt may be uncomfortable, tight cuff may impair circulation
Examples of hinge sockets
-thigh corset (joints and lacer)
What is the primary indication, major advantages and disadvantages for hinge sockets?
- Damaged knee or residual limb
- maximum ML and AP stability, partial unloading of residual limb
- Heavy, bulky, awkward to don, allows significant pistoning
