Training Rules Flashcards
State the training rules relating to location.
Avoid towns/ built up areas.
Remain outside of controlled/ restricted airspace.
State the training rules relating to weather.
Minimum visibility: 5nm
Clearly defined horizon required.
Minimum clearance from cloud: 1nm horizontally, 2000ft vertically.
State the training rules relating to radio procedures.
You must be in two way radio contact with the other aircraft at all times.
All aircraft should monitor VHF guard on Com 1.
[The tow aircraft monitors UHF guard on Com 2.]
State the training rules relating to minimum heights.
All following heights relate to AGL if over ground or AMSL if over sea.
Solo student: 10,000ft.
QFI: 5000ft
[8000ft if not current]
If over a calm sea and there is less than 4/8ths cloud cover: 10,000ft.
All aircraft should be on local RPS.
State the training rules relating to No Contact Minima.
1000ft height separation required between elements within 10nm of each other
Unless
Visual [or radar] contact established with all members of the targeted element.
Synthetic radar doesn’t count.
State the training rules relating to Minimum Separation Range (MSR).
1000ft bubble to be maintained at all times.
Except
When closing for guns behind the 3/9 line. Here the MSR is 500ft.
State the training rules relating to Minimum Break Out Range.
MBOR is as required to achieve MSR.
2 specific cases:
Front Sector Missile Attack, MBOR = 9000ft/ 1.5nm.
Guns behind the 3/9 line, MBOR = 900ft (assuming 50kts overtake.
If overtake >50kts, MBOR will be greater.
State the training rules relating to Safety.
Collision avoidance is everyone’s responsibility.
No front sector (>135 TASP) gun attacks.
If SA lost: Break off the engagement, terminate fight and ensure height separation.
Avoid crossing flight paths.
Flat scissors: call intentions early.
Make a ballistic advisory call if going uncontrollably below 100kts.
“Breakout + direction” is an executive call.
[Loss of Tally: call No Joy
Hostile into sun should remain predictable].
State the training rules relating to Aircraft Handling.
Minimum speed: 100kts.
If speed falls uncontrollably below this, call Ballistic or Breakout and perform low speed recovery drill.
Spin/ departure/ loss of control drill:
Check Height
Idle
Centralise
Recover
Engine response check.
If still out of control at or below 5000ft: Eject.
State the training rules relating to cessation of combat.
Routine or emergency:
“ Axis, Knock it Off”
“Axis 1, knock it off”
“Axis 2, knock it off”
Loss of RT: Waggle
Suggested:
Emergency: “Knock it off, knock it off, Axis, Knock it off”
