Training Definitions Flashcards
Abolishing operation (AO)
A motivating operation that decreases the reinforcing effectiveness of a stimulus, object of event.
Classical conditioning
With dolphins the whistle is paired with food. It predicts the presence of food.
Desensitization
Reducing the effects of an event through repeated exposure.
Habituation
Getting an animal use to a situation that it normally reacts to such as avoiding. Maya avoids swimming fast n DARNELL did a mock with me and Trevor to get her used to it.
Operant conditioning
Consequences result in an increased reinforcement or decreased punishment
Superstitious behavior
The modification or maintenance of behavior by accidental relations between responses and reinforcers
How often do dolphins shed their skin?
Shed a layer of skin every 2 hours
What’s the smallest and largest dolphin?
Largest- Orca
Smallest- hectors dolphin
How many species of dolphins are there?
37
What’s the teeth range for dolphins
72-108
What is the life span of dolphins?
Males- 17 to 24 years old
Females- 20 to 30 years
What is counter shading?
Camouflage darker on top tans lighter on the bottom to blend in with the ocean and sunlight and protect them from predators and prey.
What characteristics makes a dolphin a mammal?
Warm blooded
Live birth
Lactate- nurse and produce milk
Hair/fur- born with small mustache on the snout that drops off cause they don’t need it.
Breathes oxygen
What is a stimulus?
Any condition in which an animal understand as positive or negative
What is latency?
A time delay between the SD and the animals response to it
What is approximation?
One small step in a series of progressive steps that leads to the behavioral goal
What is baiting/luring?
The process of placing a reinforcers in a particular location Ms then reinforcing an animals movement to that location.
What is bridging stimulus
An informative stimulus sometimes called a marker signal that pinpoints the exact moment that the behavioral criterion is met
What is conditioned stimulus?
A formerly neutral stimulus that elicits or draw out a respondent behavior only after it has been paired with an unconditioned stimulus (US) or another conditioned stimulus (CS)
What is unconditioned stimulus
A stimulus that elicits an unconditioned response
