Define Track Zone
An area within 72” (6feet) of the outside rail on both sides of track.
What is clear of track
A location with at least 44” inches that has a handrail and walkway or other means of support
What is right of way?
That portion of the Bart system within protective fencing, tunnels, tubes,su ways, stations or aerial structures where trains operate.
What is an electrical safe clearance?
Is when grounds are placed and provides a safe working condition
What are the PPE requirements?
Hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, safety shoes
What is a district approved physical barrier?
A system safety department approved Device that separates roadway workers and the track zone.
What is a fifteen second rule?
A roadway worker must be in a predetermined place of safety 15 seconds prior to a train arriving that area.
When between tracks, when can you be clear of tracks?
When between tracks ensure you have 72” (6 feet) of clearance between you and the nearest running rail of both tracks
What is category A
Access to mainline right of way, where work does not encroach the track zone 72” (6’) outside rail on both sides of track
What is category B
Access to main line right of way, where work WILL encroach in the track zone.
What are the protections for Category B?
-Restricted 27 MPH
-A hold and a gate stop, at prior interlocking
-Watchperson
-T/O notified of location, purpose and protection.
-(3) three way communication with EIC, OCC, and T/O,
-notification of reverse running trains, -watchperson,
-EIC can reduce speed
-EIC authorizes vehicle movement thru area and determines speed.
What is a Cat C?
Access to yards tracks or local control areas, train protection is provided by tower/LCA watch person, blue lights
What is Category Y?
Access to Yard non track zone.
Authorize to work where work does not encroach the track zone
What is blanket work area?
Main line track areas between specific interlocking gates or between interlocking gates and end of the line stations, where train movement is prohibited on all tracks.
