Q

What is long jump?

A

The athlete will run the runway and then take off on one foot and land on two feet. Measurement is taken from the front of the takeoff board to the closest mark made in the pit. The jumper may not step over the takeoff board or that attempt will be a scratch. The athlete will be given three attempts with the longest of their attempts counting.

Q

What is shot put?

A

The shot is put from a ring of 7 feet in diameter; a release at a 45 degree angle is best. Do NOT throw the shot, it is propelled by a putting motion which starts with the shot put tucked under the athlete’s jaw bone. Elbow should be up. You must enter and exit from the back of the circle; you cannot step on or oxer the toe board. The best of the three attempts is used to determine scoring.
