What was its purpose?
A
Purpose was to raise revenue so that Britain could pay the salaries of the colonies’ royal governors and other British officials

What goods where affected and why?
A
Goods affected included, glass, wine, china, lead, paint, paper and tea. These were chosen as Britain knew it was harder for Americans to make these due to lack of resources.

Colonial reactions included?
A
- Townshed believed colonists would be okay with paying this tax, because it was an “external tax” (to do with trade) not an “internal” tax (to do with goods within the colony) as the Stamp Act was
- But, colonists did not think like this, and knew it was just another way for Britain to raise money.
- The sons and Daughters of Liberty organised boycotts of British goods affected by the tax.
- The Daughters of Liberty helped to organise boycotting as they were in charge of what goods were in the home.
