- Can be classified as either domestic or international

- Examples include the Grand Canyon, and the Great Barrier Reef

A
- Italy was widely visited by members of the aristocratic upper class during the 16th and 18th centuries on grand tours that lasted 1-3 years
- Due to budget airlines now, tourist now generally make multiple smaller trips rather than a single long trip
- Tourism expanded in Vietnam due to economic reform in 1986 which allowed for the establishment of privately-owned enterprises as previously the government owned and controlled all tourism sectors
- First 5-star floating hotel opened in 1989 in Vietnam
