  • Due to budget airlines now, tourist now generally make multiple smaller trips rather than a single long trip
  • Tourism expanded in Vietnam due to economic reform in 1986 which allowed for the establishment of privately-owned enterprises as previously the government owned and controlled all tourism sectors
  • First 5-star floating hotel opened in 1989 in Vietnam
