What does tourism mean?
Tourism is the activities of people traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for leisure, business or other purposes for not more than one consecutive year.
What is the process of exploration?
Small number of visitors attracted by natural beauty or cultural characteristics . Tourist numbers are limited and few tourist facilities exist.
What is the process of Stagnation?
Peak numbers of tourists have been reached. The resort is no longer considered fashionable.
What is the process of rejuvenation?
There is more investment in the area. It modernises and the area experiences an increase in visitors.
What does rebranding mean?
Rebranding is the way in which a place is re-developed and marketed so that it gains a new identity. (like reimaging or regeneration).

what is the reasons for the growth to tourism?
Travel has become easier and cheaper, a greater variety of holiday to choose from, people have greater disposable income and they have more paid holidays.

What is the process of Consolidation?
Tourism has become a major part of the local economy. The visitor numbers start to level off and some old facilities are seen as second rate.
What is the process of Involvement?
Local people start to provide some facilities for tourists. There are starts to become a recognised tourist season.
What is the process of Development?
Tourist facilities and accommodation built, the number of tourists increases. The area becomes recognised as a tourist destination.
What is the process of Decline?
Tourist numbers decline as they seek new, unspoilt and exciting destinations
What is an advantage of tourism?
Tourism boosts the revenue of the economy, creates thousands of jobs.
Local traditions and customs are kept alive because tourists enjoy traditional shows
Greater demand for local food and crafts
What is a disadvantage of tourism?
May cause over crowding and traffic Jam.
Area may become dependant on tourism money.
May cause environmental damage (pollution)
Prices increase in local shops as tourists are often more wealthy than the local population
