Chinon soils are divided into three types
A
- Tuffeau: chalky limestone. More common on the slopes
- Clay
- Varennes: Sandy, alluvial soils, closer to the river Vienne

- Rests right below the Loire and is bisected by the Vienne river running northwest
- Blanc: 100% Chenin
- Rouge and Rosé: Cabernet Franc; max 10% Cabernet Sauvignon allowed
- Est. 1937

Touraine Noble-Joue AOP
A
-Rosé:
Principal Variety: Min. 40% Meunier
Complementary Varieties: Min. 20% Pinot Gris, Min. 10% Pinot Noir
- Calcareous soils, clay with limestone, and siliceous clay
- References to this wine reach as far back as the 15th century
