  • Tuffeau: chalky limestone. More common on the slopes
  • Clay
  • Varennes: Sandy, alluvial soils, closer to the river Vienne

  • Rests right below the Loire and is bisected by the Vienne river running northwest
  • Blanc: 100% Chenin
  • Rouge and Rosé: Cabernet Franc; max 10% Cabernet Sauvignon allowed

A

-Rosé:

Principal Variety: Min. 40% Meunier

Complementary Varieties: Min. 20% Pinot Gris, Min. 10% Pinot Noir

  • Calcareous soils, clay with limestone, and siliceous clay
  • References to this wine reach as far back as the 15th century
