Tour Script Fall 2023 Flashcards
1: Johnson Hall (1/2)
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Meredith! My name is Hadleigh John. I am from Franklinton, North Carolina, which is a small town right outside Wake Forest. I am a junior majoring in psychology and going for my K-6 teaching licensure. I will be your tour guide! The tour takes approximately 45 minutes, so if you’re ready, follow me.
1: Johnson Hall (2/2)
There are many factors that contribute to the success of Meredith students - strong academics, personal attention from faculty, strong applied experiences (like internships, study abroad, and research), strong friendships, the alumnae network, and StrongPoints - all important aspects of the Meredith experience.
2: In front of Jones Auditorium (1/4)
Behind me, we have Jones Auditorium. Recent renovations include new carpet, seats, paint, and furnishings in the lobby, primary auditorium, and black box theater, as well as changes to improve its accessibility.
2: In front of Jones Auditorium (2/4)
Students have opportunities to hear from impressive experts who are leaders in their fields. In recent years, guest speakers have included Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Peace Prize winners; Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was our guest in Fall 2019 - our students had a special session with her just for them.
2: In front of Jones (3/4)
Jones and Wainwright, our music building which is right behind Jones, is also home to our music, music education, and theatre programs. Students from all majors are encouraged to participate in the arts at Meredith, so if you’ve enjoyed performing in high school, you can continue to be involved in music, theatre, or dance.
2: In front of Jones (4/4)
After your visit today, I strongly recommend checking out Meredith Lake and McIver Amphitheater, which is just past that woodline. The area around the lake has some great spots to relax, and various events and traditions are held in the amphitheater, such as Cornhuskin’, which is a super fun and competitive fall tradition.
3: Walk to Faircloth
In this courtyard, we have the “conversation pit,” beach volleyball court, and first-year residence halls. The College traditions are one way to get involved in campus life. One such tradition is our Big/Little program, designed to help new students make a successful transition to Meredith.
4: Show room (123) (1/2)
Most residence hall rooms are suite style with 2 rooms adjoined by a bathroom (4 people sharing a center bathroom). A couple of floors have a different room layout and a bathroom across the hall shared by a few students. Laundry services are free and each residence hall has access to a kitchen.
4: Show room (123) (2/2)
First-year students can have cars on campus. The Wolfline and Go Raleigh bus systems are available for students to use. Each residence building has a residence director, who is a full-time faculty member who oversees the residence assistants, who are students who ensure the wellness and safety of the residents in their halls.
5: Belk Dining Hall (1/3)
Welcome to Belk Dining Hall, affectionately referred to as BDH!! BDH has dining options for everyone, such as home-cooked options on the Home Line, a fresh salad and fruit station, fresh-made Grill items that include vegetarian options, a pasta bar, a deli line with fresh, hot pizza and calzones, and a vegan/vegetarian station.
5: Belk Dining Hall (2/3)
BDH also offers special menus during special days like for our Thanksgiving dinner. Dining Services works on an individual basis with our students to accommodate allergy, medical, or dietary concerns, and needs as well.
5: Belk Dining Hall (3/3)
BDH also contributes to the College’s sustainability efforts in a number of ways, including composting, purchasing from local BIPOC and Women-owned farms, and reusable to-go boxes for students to use. You’re welcome to help yourself to a sweet treat to take with you and enjoy outside as we continue our walk to the next stop.
6: BDH Courtyard (1/2)
Building community is huge at Meredith. There are 24,000 Meredith alums living all over the world. Many of our fun community events and traditions take place here in the courtyard. For example, my freshman year, the big/little share day was held out here. It was so fun meeting my big and doing fun activities with her!!
6: BDH Courtyard (2/2)
I like to say that our community here at Meredith goes beyond the campus gates because as an alum, you can join Meredith Mentors, an online networking platform just for Meredith students and alumnae to connect and talk about things such as companies, career paths, and life after college in general.
7: Carlyle Campbell Library
Welcome to Carlyle Campbell Library, the heart of academic life at Meredith!! The Library and Learning Center, our peer-tutoring center, was recently refurbished with new furniture, lighting, technology, accessibility updates, and more. One of our interior design grads worked with us to select the furniture.
