How do SSOs and SROs differ?
SSOs = Station STANDING orders: eunduring orders ulikely to be changed.
SROs = Station ROUTINE Orders = Routine orders regularly updated to suit operational/environmental requirement.
What are the employers (RAF/Station) duties in regards to H&S?
(There are six key duties)
- To minimise risk in the workplace as much as reasonably possible.
- To ensure the environment, machinery and equipment is safe to use
- Ensure safe storage of hazardars materials and substances
- Provide adequate welfare facilities that allow for a break away from machinery and hazardous substances
- Provide appropriate information, training, instruction, and supervision to allow one to do thier job safely.
- Use appropriate signage where appropiate.

What is meant by continuous improvement?

What are the four principles it is guided by?
The continuous observation and improvement of risk mitigating procedures.
- Collective responsibility: Ideas to improve processes should come from all personnel, especially those on the front line.
- Delegation: The responsibility for implementing and enforcing procedures should be delegated to teams with the guidance of mission command which in turn delegate the responsibility to abide by and improve these to individuals.
- Collaboration: Using a wide spectrum of ideas will allow for optimal improvements. Process improvements should not be bound by organisational or functional constrictions.
- Tolerance: The type of work done by the RAF and its personnel carries inherent risks, even more so where there are human factors (most areas). This is to be recognised and tolerated so as to not undermine moral and encourage risk averse attitudes that would hinder operational effectiveness.

MANUAL HANDLING
What acronym can help when negotiating the manual handling of objects?
TILE
TASK: What is the task?
INDIVIDUAL: Are they capable of carrying it out / Do they need help? Are the wearing the correct PPE?
LOAD: Is the load appropriate or excessive?
ENVIRONMENT: Is the environment such that the task can be carried out safely? (i.e. no obstructions, adequate surface ect…)
