Torque and Equilibrium Flashcards
What is torque
Causes rotational acceleration of an object
Force is involved and rotation to exist there must be a pivot point
Torque equation
Torque (Nm) = Frsin
F = force
R = distance between the line of force and pivot point
Sin of angle between r and the line of force
How is torque maximized
Gets bigger the further you are from the pivot point
If force is perpendicular to the distance form the pivot ie a 90 degree angle
*** think of a door handle
What is equilibrium
When acceleration of an object is zero and therefore the net force is zero
What is static equilibrium
When the object is in equilibrium and not moving
What is dynamic equilibrium
When the object is in equilibrium and moving with a constant velocity
What is rotational equilibrium
When an object is not angularity accelerating
Torque clockwise = torque counterclockwise
