torah Flashcards
What Makah- plague does Hashem tell Moshe to inform Paroh about(5th)?
Plague of
animals disease - Dever
What will happen to the Jewish animals and cattle?
Nothing
How long after speaking to Paroh did Hashem bring the plague of Dever?
The next
day
What happened to the Egyptian animals?
All animals out in the field died
Discuss why the animals were killed (not to answer during prep time):
a) Jews were
not allowed to eat meat. b) Animals were treated better than the Jews. example:
Egyptians would take animals off the harness and use the Jews to plow…
Who picks up the soot to begin the 6th plague?
Both Moshe and Aharon Two
handfuls each
Who will throw it up into the air?
Moshe
What is the problem with questions 7-8? (see the third Rashi on Verse 8)
What is Rashi’s question?
How can Moshe throw 4 handfuls of ash (=soot) with
1 hand
What is Rashi’s answer?
This was part of the miracle
What will happen to the soot?
Moshe threw it up to the sky (another miracle ash
should not rise too high off the ground), it Was (dust) spread out all over Egypt
What will happen to the people and animals of Egypt?
Boils will be on all people
and animals
What happened to the sorcerers?
They could not even stand before Paroh.
Why are the sorcerers mentioned by this plague?
They got it the worst. The Malbim
says that the boils never left the magicians.
When Moshe speaks to Pharaoh, he says that G-d could have done…(what?)
Hashem could have just sent one plague to destroy you
but he is doing this for a reason. What is the reason?
To show Hashem’s strength
and for you to tell the world about Hashem
At what time did Moshe say the Hail would start? (see Rashi verse 18)
Moshe drew
a line on a wall and said when the sun hits this line tomorrow (at this time) it will hail.
Describe the weather and hail during the hail.
Thunder and hail and fire in the hail
What was destroyed by the hail?
Any people or animals in the field. All the grass
and trees
What does Pharaoh say when he calls for Moshe and Aaron?
I sinned this time
Hashem is the Tzadik and I and my nation are Reshaim, stop this plague.
Something to discuss: Why is it by the Barad - Hail that Paroh says he is the rasha and
Hashem is the Tzadik?
Before this Makah Paroh was warned to bring in people and
animals. This act of kindness (warning to bring in valuables) melted the wicked heart of
Paroh for a moment and he was able to see and admit his wrong-doings.
How does Moshe respond?
When I leave the city I will spread my hands in prayer and the
thunder will stop and the hail won’t continue to fall.
Why does Moshe have to leave the city? (see Rashi verse 29)
Moshe couldn’t pray
in the city because of all the idols that were in it.
Which vegetation survived the hail?
Wheat and spelt were not yet ripened So they
were not crushed
What miracle happened when the hail stopped? (see Rashi verse 33)
The hail
stopped mid-air.
