Topology Flashcards
What is star
Each nice is directly connected to one central hub by its own cable
Hub controls all networks communication ( node to server to receiver node )
Hub controls transfer if data packets
What is ring
Each node connected to nodes directly adjacent in a loop
No server data packets travel from node to node until at final destination
Each data packet has a. Token which is a signal that means it goes in one direction so no data packets collide
Long distance = weaker signal
Bus what is it
All nodes are connected through one backbone cable
Data can be transmitted both ways
Each one sends data packets directly by placing it on backbone
Terminators each end of cable
Fail if signal cable problem
Star - if one node cable falls can. Still operate as only one node will get effected and served stores information to go it until it is running again
Ring - all communication is stopped may be possible to restore network through isolating faulty node until repaired
Bus - backbone fails all fails if only ine node cable only it is effected .
Reliability
Star - best as if inky one link fails only one node effected but if central server fails all is down
Ring - worst if one cable fails all fails
Bus - if one nice is Not working rest system is fine backbone fails all communication is stopped
Security
Star - most as data goes to server then directly to node with out going to other nodes Imogen intended node gets it
Ring - less as data is shared accros all nodes until it reaches intended node
Bus - least secure all nodes have access to backbone so all nodes can access all data packets
Failure of one node
Star - aslong as it is not server can continue as sever will store information for node until it is fixed
Ring - all fails
Bus - only node effected is failed rest can operate fine
Adding new node
Star - easy just need added to hub
Ring - difficult as existing cables need broke and new ones need to joined to new node
Bus - easy just needs added to backbone by adding new links
