Grid reference
Grid references locate the exact point of an object or place. It consists of six numbers
Area reference
Area reference locates an area of space. It gives four coordinates. Area reference is from the bottom left corner of the square, up.
Key definition
An explanatory list of symbols used in a map, table, etc.
Scale definition
A graduated range of values forming a standard system for measuring or grading something.
Contour Lines definition
A line on a map joining points of equal height above or below sea level.
Bearing/direction
The bearing of a point is the number of degrees in the angle measured in a clockwise direction from the north line to the line joining the centre of the compass with the point.
How to find out a bearing
The direction to a point is stated as the number of degrees east or west of north or south.
Note
N30ºE means the direction is 30º east of north.
