Topics 53-63 Flashcards
In graph transformations: how would the graph move after y=f(x-a)
Move positive (right) by a positions
(Everything is happening a slots later)
In graph transformations: how would the graph move after y=f(x+a)
Move negative a (left) because everything is happening a slots earlier
In graph transformations: how would the graph move after y=f(x)+a
Up by a slots
In graph transformations: how would the graph move after y=f(x)-a
Down by a slots
In graph transformations: how would the graph move after y= af(x)
Stretch along the y axis with scale factor a
In graph transformations: how would the graph move after y=f(ax)
Stretch along the x axis with scale factor: 1/a
In graph transformations: how would the graph move after y= -f(x)
Reflection in x axis
In graph transformations: how would the graph move after y=f(-x)
Reflection in the y axis
how do you simplify surds
eg. square root of 48
find a square factor and simplify
root(16 x 3) = root(16) x root(3) = 4(root(3))
how do you add or subtract surds
like algebra - you can only add like surds
eg 7root3 - 4root3
how do you multiply surds
multiply the numbers under the square root
eg root3 x root5 = root15
How to find the magnitude of a vector
The square root of: the sum of: the square of each individual component
Eg. The magnitude of (4 over 5)
Root(4squared + 5squared)
Root(16 + 25)
Magnitude = root41
