16
Q

What is oxidation?

A

The gain of oxygen to a substance.

17
Q

What is reduction?

A

The removal of oxygen from a compound using carbon or hydrogen.

18
Q

Most reactive and least reactive?

A
Potassium = most
Gold = least (jewellery)
19
Q

What is a displacement reaction?

A

A more reactive metal will displace a less reactive metal in a compound.

20
Q

What happened when acid reacts with most metals?

A

Salt is produced.

21
Q

What does the strength of an acid depend on?

A

H+ ions

22
Q

What happens with strong acid in water?

A

They fully dissociate in water (high concentration of h+)

23
Q

What happens with weak acids in water?

A

Only partly dissociate (low concentration of h+)

24
Q

What is neutralisation?

A

A reaction where aha acid and alkali react to produce a neutral solution (salt + water)

25
Q

To make salt?

A

Pour 20cm3 of acid. Pour acid into beaker and add alkali (zinc carbonate) in excess. Filter paper leaves large chunks of alkali veins. Bunsen burner starts evaporation process and leave it in crystal dish to evaporate and leave salt.
