Topic Test Flashcards
Rare fraction
When the wave is spread out
Compression
When the wave is close together.
What are waves?
Waves are vibrations that move. They transfer energy from one place to another.
Waves are either…?
Transverse or longitudinal.
Crest
Top of the wave
Trough
Bottom of the wave
Wavelength in a transverse
Trough to trough or crest to crest
Wavelength in a longitudinal
Compression to compression or rare fraction to rare fraction.
Which type of wave has the vibrations perpendicular to the direction of the wave?
Transverse
Which type of wave has he vibrations parallel to the direction of the wave?
Longitudinal
Frequency
The number of waves passing a point very second (the shorter the wavelength the higher frequency)
Wave speed =
Frequency x wavelength
V= f x w
What is speed measured in?
What is frequency measured in?
What is wave length measured in?
Speed = m/s Frequency = Hz Wavelength = m
What is the formula of time period?
Time period = 1/ frequency
1 (top of triangle)
F (left)
T (right)
What increases as the frequency increases?
Wave speed
What is oxidation?
The gain of oxygen to a substance.
What is reduction?
The removal of oxygen from a compound using carbon or hydrogen.
Most reactive and least reactive?
Potassium = most Gold = least (jewellery)
What is a displacement reaction?
A more reactive metal will displace a less reactive metal in a compound.
What happened when acid reacts with most metals?
Salt is produced.
What does the strength of an acid depend on?
H+ ions
What happens with strong acid in water?
They fully dissociate in water (high concentration of h+)
What happens with weak acids in water?
Only partly dissociate (low concentration of h+)
What is neutralisation?
A reaction where aha acid and alkali react to produce a neutral solution (salt + water)
To make salt?
Pour 20cm3 of acid. Pour acid into beaker and add alkali (zinc carbonate) in excess. Filter paper leaves large chunks of alkali veins. Bunsen burner starts evaporation process and leave it in crystal dish to evaporate and leave salt.
