topic 9 - thermodynamics] Flashcards
1
Q
specific heat capacity
A
the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kg of the substance by 1 K (or 1°C)
2
Q
what is absolute zero
A
- the lowest possible temperature
- 0 Kelvin (-273 Celcius)
3
Q
what happens to particles at absolute zero
A
- they are at their minimum kinetic energy so everything pretty much stops
- at higher temperatures particles have more energy
4
Q
pressure/volume & temperature link
A
- pressure and volume are both directly proportional to temperature
