Command Line.
You have to use a certain language in order to get the computer to do something you want it to do. They have to be precise and correctly worded for something to understand.
Advantages of Command Line.
Quicker in some circumstances you can do the task quicker by typing in the language than using the mouse and the features of Windows.
Disadvantages of Command Line.
Very difficult for beginners to use.
Have to remember the instructions.
Graphical User Interface.
Popular as they are easy to use instead of entering commands you point and click on objects. E.g. menus, make a selection from a drop down list.
Advantage of Graphical User Interface.
No language needed.
Use of icons.
Easier to use a mouse.
Disadvantage of Graphical User Interface.
More memory is needed.
Increased processing requirements.
Menu Driven Interface.
User is presented with a list of options and they type in the letter or number of their selection.
Advantages of Menu Driven Interfaces.
Simple which is easy to use .
Disadvantages of Menu Driven Interfaces.
Only suitable where there are a few items to select form the menu.
Voice Interfaces.
Slows data to be entered via a microphone. It turns into words what you are saying.
Advantages of Voice Interfaces.
Faster then typing.
99% accuracy.
Cheap- Many computers already come with a microphone.
Disadvantage of Voice Interfaces.
Take a while to get used to.
Not accurate at first.
Errors due to background noise.
Does it work with all database software.
Game playing devices.
There are a number of input devices used with games that improve the HCI by making it more realistic.
Advantages of game playing devices.
Cordless and contains many different buttons which can improve quality of the game.
Easy to use a game.
Makes it more realistic.
Precise and therefore improves performance.
Disadvantages of game playing devices.
Expensive.
May drop out of cordless, may cause lag.
