Topic 9 Geometry Flashcards
Quadrilateral
A polygon with four sides
Triangle
A polygon with three sides
Plane figure/shape
A figure/shape with only two dimensions
Line
A straight path of points that goes on forever in two directions
Point
An exact location in space
Plane
An endless flat surface
Acute angle
An angle that is less than 90 degrees
Obtuse angle
An angle that is more than 90 degrees
Right angle
An angle which measures 90 degrees
Parallel lines
In a plane, lines that never intersect
Perpendicular lines
Two intersecting lines that form right angles (square corners)
Parallelogram
A quadrilateral in which opposite sides are parallel
Pentagon
A plane figure with 5 sides
Acute triangle
A triangle with three acute angles
Angle
A figure formed by two rays that have the same endpoint
Equilateral triangle
A triangle in which all sides are the same length
Hexagon
A polygon with 6 sides
Intersecting lines
Lines that cross at one point
Isosceles triangle
A triangle that has at least two equal sides
Line segment
A part of a line that has two endpoints
Obtuse triangle
A triangle in which there is one obtuse angle
Octagon
A polygon with 8 sides
Polygon
A closed plane figure/shape made up of line segments
Protractor
A tool used to measure and draw angles
Ray
Part of a line that has one endpoint and extends forever in only one direction
Rectangle
A parallelogram with four right angles
Rhombus
A parallelogram with all four sides congruent
Right triangle
A triangle with one right angle
Scalene triangle
A triangle in which no sides are the same length
Side
Each of the line segments of a polygon
Square
A quadrilateral with 4 right angles and all sides the same length
Straight angle
An angle which measures 180 degrees
Trapezoid
A quadrilateral with only one pair of opposite sides parallel
Vertex
The point where two rays meet to form an angle; the pointed part of a cone; plural, vertices
Vertices
The points where the sides of a polygon meet; the points where 3 or more edges meet in a solid figure; singular, vertex
Degree
A unit of measure for angles
