Q

Describe the process of eutrophication:

A

  2. Washed out of soil into lakes and rivers.
  3. Nitrates and phosphates cause an algae boom. Algae cover the surface of water.
  4. Algae prevent sunlight reaching aquatic plants. They die.
  5. Dead plants and algae accumulate at the bottom of the lake.
  6. Increase in decomposers remove oxygen from the water due to respiration.
