Renewable:
-Sources of energy that can be replenished in a quick time scale
-E.g. Wind, Solar and HEP
Recyclable:
-Sources of Energy from recycled material or waste products
-E.G Biomass and nuclear
Non-renewable:
-Sources that cannot be replenished quickly and will eventually run out
-E.g. Coal, Oil and Gas

how does mining affect the environment

A
  • Surface mining strips away large areas of the environment
  • Habitats are destroyed, loosing biodiversity
  • Takes away from water cycle which leads to increased soil erosion
  • Release of Greenhouse gasses

How does drilling affect the environment

A
  • Areas are stripped of vegetation
  • oil spills can cause lots of damage to the environment , especially on sea.
  • E.g. the 2010 oil spill where 4 million barrels were leaked
  • Extracting natural gas from underground reserves can cause methane to leak into the atmosphere
