What do we need fibre in our diet for?
To move food through our intestines.
What do we need water in our diet for?
Water dissolves substances and fills up cells.
What unit is energy measured in?
Joules (Kilo Joules= Kj)
What are the three different enzymes that work in the digestive system? What do they break up - into what?
Amylase- breaks up CARBOHYDRATES into SUGAR.
Protease- breaks up PROTEINS into AMINO ACIDS.
Lipease- breaks up FATS into GLYCEROL.
Where does food enter into the digestive system?
Through the gullet.
What do each intestines do in digestion?
Small intestine- food goes into blood through villi.
Large intestine- removes water from food.
How does the stomach take place in digestion?
Uses acids to break up food (also enzymes)
