Q

What is the greenhouse effect?

A

Energy from the sun goes through the atmosphere.
It reflects off the surface and leaves the atmosphere.
Extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere reflects some energy back to Earth. The Earth then gets warmer causing climate change.

16
Q

How does acid rain effect the ecosystem?

A
  • Rivers and lakes can become acidic, harming aquatic organisms.
  • Erode away the waxy coatings from trees/plants/leaves, meaning they are unable to photosynthesise.
  • Reacts with calcium carbonate, erodes limestone buildings etc
  • Erodes metal
17
Q

How much oxygen in present day atmosphere?

A

21%

18
Q

How much nitrogen in present day atmosphere?

A

78%

19
Q

Test for oxygen?

A

Take a glowing splint and place it in a sample of gas, if it re-ignites the gas is oxygen.

20
Q

How much carbon dioxide in present day atmosphere?

A

0.037%

21
Q

How much argon in present day atmosphere?

A

0.9%
