Topic 8 - Energetics Flashcards
Standard enthalpy of combustion (ΔcHꝊ)
the enthalpy change when 1 mol of a substance is burned completely, in an excess of oxygen, under standard conditions
Standard enthalpy of neutralisation (∆neutHꝊ)
the enthalpy change when 1 mol of water is formed during neutralisation of an acid and a base under standard conditions
Standard enthalpy of formation (ΔfHꝊ)
the enthalpy change when 1 mol of a compound is formed from its elements under standard conditions with all reactants and products in their standard states
Standard enthalpy of reaction (ΔrHꝊ)
the quantity of heat energy released/absorbed when 1 mol of substance is formed/combusted during a chemical reaction under standard conditions of temperature and pressure
