TOPIC 7: Static Electricity Flashcards
What Is Static Electricity?
the imbalance of charge that stays on an object.
What Is Friction?
the resistance against the movement of an object as a result of its contact with another object.
How Is A Spark Formed?
a spark is formed when two objects are close together, and the air gap between these two objects heat up and glow, thus transferring electrons from one object to another.
What Is The Van de Graaff Generator?
it is a device that uses friction to create a large build-up of charge on a metal dome. When it is on, it is positively charged.
What is An Electroscope?
a device that detects the presence of electrical charge, and also identifies the type of charge on a charged object.
What Will Happen To Two Negative Charges When Put Together, And Why Is This So?
two negative charges will repel. This is because like charges repel, and unlike charges attract one another.
