Topic 7: Presenting Information Flashcards
Define a template in a word processing application.
A template pre-specifies design elements such as fonts, font size, page layout, formatting, use of images etc. A word-processing application comes with a selection of available templates. You can also set up your own, for example, for a company letterhead.
Give a benefit of a template used with a word processing application.
Templates save time when you have to produce a professional-quality document. It also saves time when you need to produce a consistent style of document over time.
What is a macro?
A macro is a series of commands and instructions in code that you can group together as a single command in order to complete a task automatically.
What is a benefit of a macro?
A macro saves time when you wish to perform certain in-application tasks multiple times. For example, pasting an executive’s signature into company letters.
Describe the mail merge function of a word processing application.
Mail merge combines a list of names and addresses from a database with a standard letter, so that a large number of letters can be personalised to individuals.
Where does the data reside for a mail merge function?
The data, such as a list of names and addresses, can be created in the word processing application, or can be imported from a database or spreadsheet.
Name two methods for creating macros?
A macro can be created by writing code by hand. Alternatively, it can be created by recording a series of keystrokes, for example to paste a signature image file into a letter in a word processing application.
What is a style sheet in a Word Processing application?
A style sheet separates the content of a document from the way the content is presented.
What is an animated transition?
An animated transition in a slide presentation is an entry/exit effect when you move from one slide or to another e.g. such as fading.
What is data compression?
Data compression reduces the size of a file so that it is small enough to be stored, transmitted and displayed/run within an application without running out of memory.
