13
Q

What is the pathway of nervous communication?

A

A stimulus is detected by receptor cells and and electrical impulse is sent along a sensory neurone. The CNS processes the information and sends impulses along a motor neurone to an effector, which carries out a response.

16
Q

Why do reflexes occur?

A

To protect organisms from harm or get them out of harmful situations.

17
Q

What response does a nervous impulse give and why?

A

Rapid, short-lived and localised because they release neurotransmitters directly onto target cells.

18
Q

What is phototropism?

A

Phototropism is the growth of a plant in response to light.

19
Q

What is gravitropism?

A

Gravitropism is the growth of a plant in response to light.

20
Q

What are plant growth factors?

A

They are hormone-like chemicals which affect plant growth.

21
Q

Where are plant growth factors produced?

A

The growing regions of plants.

22
Q

What are auxins?

A

A type of plant growth factor.

23
Q

What does IAA do in shoots?

A

It causes cell elongation.

24
Q

What does IAA do in roots?

A

It causes plant growth to be inhibited.
