What does it mean by Training
Training can include a range of activities giving employees job related skills and knowledge
What does it mean by Induction
Introducing the new employee to the workplace
What does it mean by On the job training
Carried out in the workplace whilst the employee is doing their actual job e.g. demonstration, job shadowing, mentoring, job rotation, coaching
What does it mean by Off the job training
Carried out away from the workplace e.g. college, off site, computer based, sandwich course and outside trainers
What does it mean by Job shadowing
A new or inexperienced employee works alongside a more experienced employee in order to develop their skills in a particular job.
What does it mean by Demonstration
An experienced employee will show another employee (possibly a new employee) how to do the job
What does it mean by Coaching
An experienced or skilled employee (possibly the line manager) will work closely with another employee (again likely to be new or an inexperienced member of the workforce) and coach them for a period of time on a specific aspect of their job.
What does it mean by Mentoring
Similar to coaching, but involves a more supportive and advisory relationship between the experienced employee and the less experienced employee
What does it mean by Job rotation
Employees move between different jobs at the similar levels within a business. The purpose is to give employees experience of a different range of jobs to develop their skills and knowledge and to give them a better understanding of the business as whole.
What does it mean by Organisation by function
Based on roles such as finance, marketing, production, sales.
What does it mean by Organisation by function
Separate groups or divisions for each product
What does it mean by Geographic organisation
The business divides its operations by geographical area
What does it mean by Organisational chart
Shows the different job roles, the levels of hierarchy, the chain of command and the span of control of the different job roles
What does it mean by Chain of command
Formal line of communication that starts at the top of the organisational chart down to the bottom levels
What does it mean by Span of control
Number of employees managed directly by the line manager
