What is the Paschal candle
It is a large candle which is an important feature of the easter vigil. It represents the risen Christ
What is the significance of the Paschal candle, the symbols on it and what they represent
Light: The light of Christ that shines in the darkness
Fire: It represents Christs resurrection
Grains of Incense; They represent the 5 wounds of Christ
Alpha and Omega: Christ is the beginning and end of all things
The Cross: It represents Christ and his internal light
Year: It reminds us of Gods presence here and now
What services are the Paschal candle used for
The Easter Vigil: It represents that Christ has risen
At Baptism’s: The candle shows the person has been filled by the light of christ
At funerals: The candle shows the descended person has joined Christ in the resurrected life
