Topic 6 Flashcards
What is the function of glucagon?
homeostasis
Raises blood glucose concentration; Converts glycogen in the liver to glucose
William Harvey’s investigation of sexual reproduction in deer
William Harvey’s tests on deer debunked Aristotle’s theory, which claimed that an egg is formed when a male seed is mixed with menstrual blood. During the test, the uterus of a female deer was examined during mating season. Unlike the immediate development of eggs that were expected to be found, developement only started two or more months later. In conclusion, the fetus did not develop from a mixing of menstrual blood.
What is the function of insulin?

Lowers blood glucose concentration; Converts glucose to glycogen for storage in the liver
What is the funciton of leptin?
inhibits appetite
What is the function of testosterone?
Regulates the metabolic rate and helps control body temperature
