TOPIC 5: TIES Flashcards
Refer to the reinforcement bars (rebar) or wires that are used to hold together and confine the vertical or longitudinal bars in a column or other structural members.
Ties
What are the primary functions of ties?
- Prevent buckling
- Confine the concrete
- Provide lateral support
Are closed loops of reinforcing bars that are shaped in a rectangular or square configuration.
Rectilinear ties
They are used in reinforced concrete columns and beams to hold the longitudinal reinforcing bars in place and improve the column’s ability to resist compressive and shear forces.
Rectilinear ties
Are specifically designed for rectangular and square cross-sections
Rectilinear ties
Refers to the method by which reinforcing bars are secured or anchored into concrete to ensure they cannot slip out of place under load.
Anchorage
This can be achieved through hooks, bends, or mechanical devices, and it ensures the effective transfer of stress between the concrete and the reinforcement.
Anchorage
Are reinforcing bars bent into a circular configuration, used to confine the core of concrete in circular columns or piers.
