What are the effects of globalisation?
A
- More immigration from the EU – in 2014 EU immigrants made up 38% of all immigrants.
- More undocumented workers - these are people who do not have the official documents to enter, live or work in a country legally. The Home office estimates there are 500,000- 800,000 undocumented workers in the UK.
- More asylum seekers - in March 2014 there were about 24000 people seeking asylum in the uk.
- Greater cultural diversity
- Change in families - Eastern European migrants tend to have larger families, this contributes to the “baby boom” in the 2000’s

What’s the advantages of an ageing population?
A
- A boost to the economy: Lawton points out that the ageing population brings with it the emergence of new markets
- More social cohesion and community involvement: the Dept of Culture, Media and Sports found nearly 4.9 million people aged 65 and over took part in volunteering
- Less crime
- Family support: grandparents how often play an important role in unpaid childcare. If paid for the cost of various household and childcare tasks would come to a weekly average of £73.
