What is brick veneer?
A method of construction in which a single and non load bearing wall of brick work is tied to a timber framed load bearing wall to and from the external wall. 250mm thick
What is cavity wall?
A wall system constructed of two brick walls separated by a continuous vertical barrier to create a positive water barrier.

What is full brick?
The method of construction in which the external and internal bricks are joined together to support the roof and ceiling structure. 230mm
What is timber frame?
This is the construction in which the structural members are of timber or steel and depend on a timber frame for support
Name and describe two types of flooring systems?
- attached (engaged) built or bonded to a wall. Used to stiffen the wall and carry a superimposed load
- isolated (island)
Free standing, carrying some loads, only decorative

What is ventilation
- under floor space
- cavities must be well ventilated
- max 300mm must be provided
- top of the ventilators must be the same level as the lowest floor timber

What is Ant capping
- A metal shield made from galvanized iron
- placed on top of the wall, pier or stump
- turned up at 45 degrees to delay the Movement of termites

- full (covers an isolated pier)
- half over an engaged pier
- continuous within the wall
What is vermin proofing
A sub floor structural timber which supports the floor joints
What is flooring
A construction component that provided the surface on which one walks in a building or structure
