Q

What is Applied Part Leakage?

A

Applied part is basically any device that is suppose to come in contact with patient. The APL is basically any leakage current that flows from applied part, between applied parts or into an applied part

Q

What is Patient Auxiliary Current Test?

A

It measures the current between a selected applied part and all other applied part. (Using the same condition of reverse polarity switch and single fault of open neutral or open earth)

Q

What is Mains on Applied Part/ Lead Isolation Test?

A

it measures current flow in an isolated AC voltages applied between earth and selected applied part.
it uses mains supply with normal and reverse polarity and also a isolated voltage supply with mains and reverse polarity.

Q

What is Residual Voltage Test?

A

It is a test that measures the voltage between 2 of the 3 pin plugs 1 second after it is disconnected from the socket and must be less than 60V or less than 2mJ to prevent accidental shock after unplugging.

Q

What is Retained energy?

A

it is the energy stored in the accessible part. this test is only if you failed the accessible part voltage and is to verify that the energy is less than 2mJ

Q

What is Current Draw?

A

it is the current consumed by the product. has to be within 10-25% of rating on equipment. The test is to measure the current that the product consume through the power cord.

Q

What is the purpose of Safety testing medical equipment?

A

To ensure the device is safe for the patient and caregiver to use

17
Q

What is the 3 stages of the product where safety testing is important?

A

1) Development of the product ( Designing Stage )
2) In the production line ( End of production stage )
3) When servicing the product

18
Q

What is IP (Ingress Protection) Code?

A

it is a rating that specifies the level of protection for an equipment. The first digit signifies the solid particle protection while the second digit signifies the liquid ingress protection.

19
Q

What is single fault condition and what are the 7 single fault condition?

A

It is basically faults that could occur in a device.
1) Open Safety Ground
2) Open Neutral
3) Mains voltage on SIP/SOP
4) Mains voltage on applied part
5) Insulation Shorting
6) Open External power supply ground
7) Open External power supply neutral

20
Q

What is Normal Condition and what are the 7 Normal Condition?

A

It is electrical condition that normally occur on a daily basis and are not considered problems.
1) Reversed AC Line
2) Functional Earth grounded (Grounded Circuit)
3) Patient lead grounded
4) Isolated metal parts grounded
5) Reversed main voltage on SIP/SOP polarity
6) Reversed mains voltage on applied part polarity
7) External power supply functional earth grounded

21
Q

How do we test for receptacle power supply?

A

We can use the receptacle tester to test for the integrity of a power supply which has a 3 pin plug with 3 led.
