Topic 4- The Fight Or Flight Res Flashcards
PEEL 1
Become ill due to effects on body
P- A limitation could be there’s negative effects on the body.
E- Long term increase in blood pressure can damage the blood vessels and lead to heart burn.
E- Also too much cortisol suppresses the immune response.
L- Increasing the likelihood the person will become ill.
PEEL 2
Usually freeze if threatened
P- Another criticism is most animals and humans initially freeze in response to threat.
E- Enabling them to assess threat before responding.
E- Adrenaline & cortisol promote a hyper vigilant state, where the individual is alert to danger focusing attention on relevant sensory input.
L- Giving adaptive advantages as we chose the best response to the threat.
PEEL 3
Male aggression
P- Male aggressive response can be seen as a limitation, there’s evidence of genetic basis for gender differences in the fight or flight response.
E- Lee & Harley found the SRY gene found in male’s Y chromosome, promotes male aggression.
E- This could allow men to release more adrenaline when threatened.
L- Adding further explanation to the different responses of females who dont have Y chromosomes.
