Topic 4 Solubility Flashcards
1
Q
What is solubility?
A
The mass of a solid that will saturate 100g of water (or solvent) at a particular temperature)
2
Q
What is the effect of temperature on the solubility of solids?
A
It increases
3
Q
What is the effect of temperature on the solubility of gases?
A
It decreases
4
Q
How do you find the solubility of a substance?
A
Solubility = mass of solute/mass of solvent x 100
5
Q
How do you find the amount of solution that will crystallise?
A
Find the solubility of both temperatures, then take them away. If the solvent isn’t 100g divide/multiply to get to the solvent’s size
